New Season - Same Spirit!

Club Day - 22nd August, 10am at Taverham

All players of the game are welcome to this year’s annual club day. Grab a stick (or we’ll find you one) and join in the day’s activities in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

A great way for existing members to reunite after the summer - A great way for others to see if they want to start playing the game (again!)

As usual, the bar will be open and there will be a barbeque.

The more the merrier – please extend the invite to all those who may be interested!

If you have not yet registered then please register via the website and turn up raring to go at 10:00, bringing a coloured and white shirt.

Remember, subscriptions paid at club day or before the end of August mean a £10 discount!

Club Clothing

If you are attending club day then you can buy club clothing when you are there, including your crisp new club shirt for the forthcoming season which we should have in stock and many will be available to take away on the day.

Other club clothing is available to order, including rain jackets and ever popular hoodies (even in adult sizes!).

This season we are pushing for teams to look like teams on and off the pitch, so time to upgrade those antique shirts (Ali wants his back!), get yourself a pair of black shorts or green skirts/skorts (not blue - you know who you are guys!), stock up on black hoodies or jackets for warming up, and with the arrival soon of some new custom club socks we'll begin to look raring to go.

More details will be added to the website shortly so you can see more of what club clothing is available.

Club Members enjoy internationals

15 intrepid City players (and miscellaneous extras!) made their way to Nottingham to watch the Champions Trophy on Saturday, 17 July – the 10 am pushback being too early for some despite the Wardales’ expert gate keeping.

To play international hockey, it was clear that we must ignore what we’re taught in training – use the reverse stick at every opportunity, don’t get your feet round, defence passing in the D should be actively encouraged. Holland won the match 1-0.

Next came England v New Zealand; England needed to win to get into the final (unless Argentina lost to China. To the delight of our resident Kiwi, Leigh-Ann, England deployed the ‘give the opposition a head start’ tactic to make it more challenging. Unfortunately, they then proved inept at making the difference up, and contrived to draw 2-2.

Argentina had to lose to China. This was a thriller. From 3-1, China fought back to 3-3, with much cheering from the (slightly) biased City fans. A last second penalty corner was controversially awarded to Argentina (although Leah explained to the entire stand why it wasn’t controversial at all). Argentina converted for a last gasp victory.

Japan v New Zealand was passed over for a trip to the the kiddies zone, and a visit to the cuddly mascots in particular (Hannah!)

Finally, the star billing: GB men v Germany. Britain took a 2-0 lead, with a dummy lob over the keeper to score the opener. Germany fought back 2-2, then stole victory in the last minute of extra time. (typical!)

Quote of the day: lady in the row behind us:
‘ooh look, it’s been raining, the pitch is wet!’
(Leah Collett)

I WANT YOU FOR FEEDBACK

Having recently volunteered to become publicity officer, it immediately dawned on me that I had absolutely no idea what kind of thing you want to read in a Norwich City Hockey Club Newsletter.

Please, let me know what sort of things you would be interested to read and once I’ve filtered through the customary banter, I hope to have a better idea of what you want.

Email: newsletter@norwichcityhc.co.uk

Have a great season!

Ralph Jackman
